Les Lalanne

Claude Lalanne (1925-2019) and François-Xavier Lalanne (1927-2008) met in 1952, at François-Xavier’s first exhibition, and worked side by side for more than fifty years. Each pursued his or her own work, in the same spirit: bringing sculpture down from its pedestal and into everyday life.

François-Xavier is known for his bestiary in bronze and copper: the Moutons (sheep, 1965), which serve as seats, the Rhinocrétaire, a desk shaped like a rhinoceros, and lamps in the form of birds. Claude developed a botanical world in galvanized copper and bronze, including the Choupatte, a cabbage on bird’s feet. Their works, emblematic of French decorative arts, are highly sought after by collectors. The gallery has presented pieces from the Artcurial editions, such as the Mini Troupeau de Moutons rug and the Pigeon lamp.
